CLLR ANDY DOIG TO STAND FOR RENFREWSHIRE SOUTH AT THE SCOTTISH ELECTIONS FOR NEW INDY PARTY, SCOTIA FUTURE

Cllr Andy Doig, the Nominating Officer for Scotia Future, Scotland’s new party for real independence and a Scotland of Equals, has thrown his hat into the ring to contest the Renfrewshire South constituency at this year’s Scottish Elections. Cllr Doig, who represents Johnstone North, Kilbarchan, Howwood, and Lochwinnoch in Renfrewshire Council, said:

“I love Renfrewshire South as it is where I live, work, and worship, and it needs a strong local voice in the Scottish Parliament. I am proud to represent my council constituents within Renfrewshire Council, but many constituents have recently approached me to consider standing for Holyrood, and after careful consideration I have decided to go for it.”

“Many of the key issues I have been fighting for over the last nine years in the Council, like reform of planning laws, a better tourism strategy, economic regeneration, and the need to re-industrialise, are all policies made in Edinburgh not Paisley. I am especially opposed to the centralising agenda which has seen control of policing and social work taken from local communities.”

“Scotia Future is a party that wants real independence for Scotland, with its own currency, economic justice to give everyone a chance in life, and more power for local government. Forty years ago towns like Johnstone, Barrhead, and Linwood, were industrial powerhouses, and we also badly need to increase manufacturing capacity as a key political priority.”

“Real independence to Scotia Future means a Swiss style deal for Scotland in EFTA. It is not a false choice between Westminster and Brussels but of the Scottish people taking the full powers they need to build a post Covid future. Real independence is not about changing flags but about changing society and promoting a fair and enterprising culture based on co-operative values.”
