SCOTIA FUTURE SAYS SNP’S ROUTEMAP TO INDEPENDENCE IS A DEAD END AS IT MUST BE LED BY SCOTLAND NOT WESTMINSTER
Former MSP, Mr Chic Brodie, the Leader of Scotia Future, which stands for real independence and a Scotland of Equals, has said the only routemap to Scottish independence has to rest on the sovereignty of the people, and be led by Scotland not Westminster, and described the SNP’s recent proposals as more a “dead end than a road forward”. Mr Brodie said:
“The 1989 Claim of Right makes clear the sovereignty of the Scottish people to choose their own destiny and that fundamental truth is the only foundation on which an independence routemap can be agreed. By contrast the SNP’s recent so-called routemap is more a dead end than a road forward and has significant gaps, notable in timescale and detail.”
“The SNP’s proposals talk about holding a referendum “once the pandemic is over”, is that this year, next year, or two years time. This is crucial because Scotland needs a full sovereign government now to rebuild the economy as soon as possible. Also, why are the SNP naively inviting Westminster to take legal action when sovereignty rests here not in London. Frankly, the wider YES movement deserves better.”
Cllr Andy Doig, Co-Founder and Nominating Officer for Scotia Future added: “In order to activate the claim to a direct parliamentary mandate, as a democratic route to independence, all pro independence parties must clearly put a Statement of Independence in their manifestos for the Scottish elections in 2021, and Scotia Future calls on all other pro independence parties to do the same to anchor its international validity.”
“Scotia Future is clear that failure to respond by Westminster, within a specified timescale, will mean the Scottish Government must proceed to an independence referendum based on our right to national self determination under international law, through notifying the UN of our intentions under the UN Charter to which the UK was a signatory. Westminster must be challenged to respond not left to set the agenda. ”
